European Working Group on Acoustic Emission
Dr. Len Rogers
We received the sad notice these days that our highly respected colleague Dr. Len Rogers passed away on August 15th, 2023. Len served several terms as executive committee member, in particular as the EWGAE treasurer. Already early in his professional career he focused on acoustic emission and was managing/working in different fields: sensors and measuring instruments, testing of pressure equipment, monitoring of structures on-shore as well as off-shore and many other AE applications. Len published numerous papers and technical reports. He never really retired and so he was contributing greatly to standardisation work for a long time within CEN/TC 138/WG 7 (acoustic emission testing). Right before the Covid pandemic started, WG 7 could finalise a long-term project that was very important to him: Monitoring of metallic pressure equipment and structures with acoustic emission.

Professor Kenichi Yoshida of the University of Tokushima passed away on October 10, 2022 at age 75. We have lost a kind colleague and friend from Japanese AE Community. His contributions to AE centered on the deformation mechanisms of intermetallic compounds, gas leakage detection and hydrogen damage evaluation of Al alloys. Professor Kenichi Yoshida made many contributions to the AE field, he regularly and actively, and first of all enthusiastically attended the EWGAE, AEWG and Japanese conferences.
We express our heartfelt condolences to his family and relatives as well our friends in Japanese AE Community.
